TUUNGANE PROJECT
In Swahili, Tuungane (toong-AH-nay) means
“Let us come together!”
In Congo (DRC), we are working to bring Gospel transformation through the local church in communities ravaged by decades of armed conflict. Led by Marcel Serubungo, the Tuungane Project holds workshops in towns and villages for faith restoration of Christian leaders and the promotion of peace and reconciliation among divided communities. Our work attends to those suffering most in Congo, especially children, youth, women, and the elderly.
The Tuungane Project is also creating programs in trauma recovery and economic development, all to see God’s people come together for healing!
Our Story
The Tuungane Project in Congo’s Kivu region is developed and directed by Marcel Serubungo.
Marcel was born and raised in Eastern Congo and lived through the Kivu conflict and its aftermath. Marcel’s early work with humanitarian organizations – and then as an ordained pastor – thrust him into the center of the suffering faced by so many in Africa’s Great Lakes region. After decades of work with World Relief and World Vision, Marcel saw the need for a holistic response to the spiritual, social and economic challenges faced by countless communities in Congo.
Through his ministry networks – and his master’s training in peace and conflict management – Marcel began holding workshops through local churches. The workshops mobilize leaders to promote spiritual restoration and sustainable peace in their communities. The Tuungane Project is working through these networks to develop programs in trauma healing and economic development.
